Giveaway: Signed King of Thorns by Mark Lawrence

The second book in the Broken Empire series, Lawrence takes his young anti-hero one step closer to his grand ambition.

To reach greatness you must step on bodies, and many brothers lie trodden in my wake. I’ve walked from pawn to player and I’ll win this game of ours, though the cost of it may drown the world in blood…

The land burns with the fires of a hundred battles as lords and petty kings fight for the Broken Empire. The long road to avenge the slaughter of his mother and brother has shown Prince Honorous Jorg Ancrath the hidden hands behind this endless war. He saw the game and vowed to sweep the board. First though he must gather his own pieces, learn the rules of play, and discover how to break them.

A six nation army, twenty thousand strong, marches toward Jorg's gates, led by a champion beloved of the people. Every decent man prays this shining hero will unite the empire and heal its wounds. Every omen says he will. Every good king knows to bend the knee in the face of overwhelming odds, if only to save their people and their lands. But King Jorg is not a good king.

Faced by an enemy many times his strength Jorg knows that he cannot win a fair fight. But playing fair was never part of Jorg’s game plan.

Because if you've ever battled Brazilian rush-hour you would know that I am surrounded daily by ruthless, car-clad Jorgs. My only hope is to understand the enemy!

@Beff_Linnett Because I've tried to do this three times now and it hadn't worked once... at least you know I'm persistent. Sorry if there's a backlog :( Because... I want to be a writer, and I find the narrative and characters to have an interesting style. See, I'm hoping flattery will at least get me somewhere :) Also because... it's awesome; I really, really want it; and, um... third times the charm! *Fingers Crossed*

I deserve it because I prefer to use good literature as drink coasters in my dilapidated Winnebago. It gives my abode an air of classiness

Why should I win? Because I am absolutely in love with these books. I would cherish it, my birthday was 2 days ago and if i could have had 1 thing for my bday this would be it. I'm a mom to a wonderfully beautiful autistic son, I home school him, and spend so much time going to and fro with his therapies I find books my way of escaping. I've tried endlessly to win and though I'm sure everyone is a fan but I think I'm the numero uno fan :)

Goodluck to all who enters

Because it's my birthday in March, and I promise if I win this I'll buy the first one with my birthday money!

Because having a copy of 'King of Thorns' will serve as a manual of what not to do when my dictatorship and global reign of domination emerge from the shadows... After all, the world might not survive a leader mistakenly following Jorg's example
(out of inexcusable ignorance of Mark Lawrence's 'Broken Empires' series)

Gads, man! Just give me the book! Can you even imagine the destruction if that thing falls into the wrong hands? Think of the damage it would do if George R R Martin found this book and saw the cover. Authors would have to be called in to support Mark Lawrence. Others would side with GRRM. A fantasy war would rage and Myke Cole would probably be the only person who actually knew what the hell was going on. Jim Hines would be forced to do sexy poses to fund the battle and Scalzi would attack with an army of bacon layered cats. Peter Brett and Brent Weeks would knife fight (although that's normal and would probably be completely unrelated to any of this) and people would find out there is no "Peter Brett Weeks." They are actually two different people. Minds would be blown! THE HUMANITY!

Why should I win this book? I should win because I NEED this book. There is an empty and quite lonely spot on one of my bookshelves that needs to be filled. By strange coincidence, the spot is directly adjacent to "Prince of Thorns" by the very same author. What are the odds? Also, this bookshelf is quite old and very unstable. It requires a book this exact page count and weight in order to stay whole. Otherwise, it will most surely collapse, destroying books and, perhaps, falling on or more innocent puppies. Terrible scene. So, in conclusion, unless you absolutely hate cute little puppies, I should win this book. Clearly.

I don't deserve it. See, I've been bad.
Like Jorg, I was stuck deeply in a thorn bush for a dreadfully long time. Because of this, and the pain and anguish, I went on a rampage. I tore through my first aid kit, scattering thermometers and antihistamines like the carcasses of fallen soldiers. After applying the painful, ney excrutriating, anti-sceptic spray, I put plasters all over me, like memorial tattoos to the blood.
So I don't deserve it. Give it to someone else.

Or don't.......

I deserve it as Mr Mark Lawrence blessed my birthday by leaving me a happy birthday comment on my wall. It means alot for a man of his calibre to wish a mere simple loyal fan a happy birthday. Maybe he would like to extend the graciousness to giving me a copy of his signed book. It can sit next to my unsigned and slightly read and re read copy. If not, the comment alone made my birthday.

Sincerly Marty

I think I should win this book because I am a poor college student who can't afford good novels becaus I have to spend all of my money on expensive and terrible textbooks.

Because as soon as I saw this I literally squealed and made my 6yo jump about a mile into the air. - very amusing to see ;)

And being a SAHM I can't afford pretty books anymore :(

Also, its my Birthday on the 6th, and my manthing always forgets and it sucks. #sympathyvote?

Because my volleyball Wilson is almost deflated from being in the sun on this deserted island. And if I don't have anything to read, I'll be forced to spend time with Cast Away era Tom Hanks. Please don't do that to me.

Because every time I hear Jorg call one his brothers, in my head, its Malcom MacDowell about to call over one of his little droogies, and I love that. I love the terrible rotten nature of a boy who got the rawest of deals when he should have had one of the sweetest of lives, but took it anyway, grew from it, and dominated anyone who would change his hard fought lot in life. The ending had me cackling and a bit confused because he conquered EVERYTHING that was an obstacle to him... what else is really left but the final fight for the Empire? Honestly pawing at the screen, impatiently waiting for the next book. Katherine, the Dead King, Miana... too many good things to look forward to reading about.

Because goats...yeah goats.

I haven't read the first book, but I love board games, and based on the description this book seems to be about games, and wars and stuff, so there.

wiramu.wall said...

Because I plan to rule the world and I would like to have Jorg as my puppet. A man is only as strong as the secretes he hides and this book is undoubtedly full of ammunition.

And because I lost another competition today concerning the same thing. Can't hurt to do it again!

If I win I can use the fantasy book I am currently reading, page by page, to catch the droppings at the bottom of my gerbil cage ... I have already checked, it fits perfectly.

I think I should win this book as I forced Waterstone's Aberdeen stores to restock all Mr Lawrence's books after they ran out of stock...

Pick me and I will read this book as I will feel obligated to do so, which means you'll be getting more people to read it and that's what you want, isn't it? :P

You should gimme this book because... because...

It will make Jorg angry.
Nobody likes Jorg when he's angry.

Almost missed this!

You should give me the giveaway because I'm quite close to Jorg's age. You don't know what I might do...

I think I should win it because I'll protect you from Dom when he tries his razing.

Besides that, it'd be a waste to ship it inside the UK when it's an international givaway. ;)

I'd like to win because just like the show, I'd fight for this book so I can read it and achieve greatness.
